Hello, my fellow Washington State music teachers! I hope all of your fall teaching kick-offs went swimmingly! As we enter into a new school year, I wanted to give you a couple of updates about the Music Literacy Program.
The changes to registration that we made last year, with only the state fees being collected online and chapters collecting their own fees worked great! We will continue to run things that way. This year is the Set 2 tests for chapters testing in the spring. You may still notice errors on some of the tests. If you do, please note them and let me know on your Participation Profile form, as the Ed Board just agreed to purchase Adobe Acrobat for me so I can make some minor corrections.
Another exciting update this year is that teachers who would like to participate, but whose chapters do not, are able to register now as an individual teacher. I am hoping this will encourage a lot of new participants who will then get their chapters excited about the program. These teachers will still register and pay the state fees, and simply proctor the tests in their own studio, as if they were the chapter chair.
Just a reminder and review of the procedures:
- The chapter chair (or individual teacher) kicks off the process by filling out the Chapter Questionnaire. This gives Kirsten the information she needs to set up your registration form and have it open during the window you’ve requested.
- After your registration closes, the chapter chair reaches out to me at: [email protected], and I’ll give them access to the tests. I’m currently in the process of reorganizing all of the tests on to this new google drive.
- When your event is over, fill out the Participation Profile form, and your High Honors students’ names will be sent in for the Clarion recognition, and I will receive all of your feedback including any errors that need to be corrected for 2028.
- If your chapter does not already have certificates and seals, that information will be sent to me as well so I can get them in the mail to you.
Thank you all for your patience as we’ve been working to fine tune this process. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions.
