Can you hear the birds outside your window? I’m writing to you from my little office corner and I’m starting to witness the new life of spring out my window. As I’m looking ahead to spring, I’m also looking forward to connecting with many of you at the 2026 WSMTA Conference this June at Central Washington University!

At the 2026 WSMTA Conference, I’ll be presenting a program highlighting the five teacher profile projects titled: “MTNA Certification Toolbox.” I will speak to insights I’ve learned in the last 15 years of being involved with the Certification process. Also, I’ll speak to how the Certification projects have clarified my values as a teacher – rooted in curiosity, creativity, courage, and compassion. These values connect me to my heart as a music teacher and support my practice of living wholeheartedly in each present moment with my students. Invite a friend and join me at my workshop at the conference on Sunday, June 28th at 2:00PM.

Lastly, I want to remind you that WSMTA has grants available for $125, which covers half of the $250 MTNA Certification application cost.

Whether you’re attending 2026 WSMTA Conference or not, I’d love to hear from you! Send me an email to tell me a favorite piece you’re learning this spring, or if you have any questions about the journey of becoming a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music.

I look forward to connecting with you!
