SAVE THE DATE! for the 2026 WSMTA State Conference

with the Bardin-Niskala Duo:“Music is CENTRAL!”

June 27-29, 2026 at Central Washington University in Ellensburg

Last call for Early-bird Registration!

As the time for the annual Washington State Conference gets closer, your planning committee is getting more excited! Don’t miss your chance to register before the Early Bird rate disappears on May 15.

For fee information and to register, see: https://dev2.wsmta.org/2026-wsmta-conference-registration/

Or to apply for a registration fee waiver, see: https://dev2.wsmta.org/wsmta-conference-fee-grant-application/

We always look forward to seeing the amazingly creative baskets that chapters put together for the Basket Auction! This is a fun way to support the projects of WSMTA, established to benefit teachers and students as they pursue their music education goals.

The results of our first ever Student Artwork Contest are in! After much deliberation, the committee selected “Music is Central” created by Perrie Lam, age 12, a student of Yelena Balabanova. His creation will grace the cover of this year’s Conference Booklet and also be used on WSMTA merchandise to be sold at the Conference.

Among the 25 presentations you will hear at the Conference is “Improvise. . .With Words” by RoseMarie Tamburri. She says: “Writing can be therapeutic, or just plain fun. In this session, our instrument will be the Pen (or device). Through multiple writing activities, the aim is to express yourself through the written word and to set music goals for yourself and your students.”

The Representation and Advocacy Committee will lead us to “Travel the World Through Music”. With their guidance, we’ll be traveling around the world, sampling local sounds and inspiration—from China, Egypt, the British Isles and even our home state, Washington.

I look forward to seeing you there!
