A message from Marina Munter, District V Director.

We had two fantastic events this fall. They reminded me of my childhood, when I was a student at Narva Music School in Estonia. We had performances of classical and contemporary music every month. I remember the first day, when I opened the door into the mysterious world of music. It was a sunny day, September 1, 1970. Beautiful music was floating out through the open windows. I heard a crying violin, a laughing flute, a melancholy cello, a teasing sound of the trumpet and other instruments that I didn’t recognize yet. I was spellbound by those magic sounds, and that day I fell in love with music, the love of a lifetime.
On a beautiful Saturday morning, September 13, WSMTA President, Kira Miller, visited Moses Lake Chapter. She gave an outstanding presentation on WSMTA and the programs available for teachers and students. Thank you, Kira, for visiting our chapter!

In the afternoon that day our chapter held a collaborative recital with two incredible performers, pianist Dr. Oksana Ejokina and baritone Misha Myznikov. Mr. Myznikov sang repertoire in seven languages. Music brought together people from diverse backgrounds. Some members of the audience were from Ukraine, Estonia, Finland, Russia, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Mexico and Venezuela. This unforgettable experience shared passion for music and created a sense of “oneness”. Thank you WSTMA for the discretionary grant, which sponsored this event.
On October 4th we had our District V conference with a terrific presenter, Dr. Peter Mack, Immediate Past MTNA President. The conference was amazing! Ten teachers and ten students were in attendance. Everyone enjoyed it very much and was truly inspired by Dr. Mack’s presentation and performance. Thank you for sharing your talent and your knowledge with us and for making such an impact on music education!

In December some of Moses Lake Chapter’s teachers will hold fundraising recitals “Christmas Songs for Orphans”. A nonprofit organization, World Light Foundation, Inc. (WLF) was founded in 2004 by my former piano students’ family, the Skala family. WLF currently operates in Ukraine and has established a Children’s center that provides home for orphaned and abandoned children (worldlightfoundationinc.com). If you’d like to hold a fundraising recital and need more information, please contact me at (509)855-1712 or [email protected].
